Dominique Aegerter carried his momentum from Cremona into the opening day of the penultimate race weekend of the season and shone on Friday afternoon with his best Superpole performance of the year.
The Circuito do Estoril, not far from the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, is hosting Round 11 of the 2026 Supersport World Championship this weekend. Despite its proximity to the Atlantic and its relatively late position in the calendar, conditions could not be better, with glorious late-summer weather.
Dominique Aegerter arrived at the most western point of Europe in high spirits. The progress he and his Kawasaki WorldSSP Team made in Italy two weeks ago has given the 35-year-old rider from the canton of Bern a boost in motivation. Nevertheless, Friday got off to a rather subdued start for Aegerter. He finished the morning’s Free Practice Session in 19th place.
In Superpole a few hours later, which determined the starting grid for Saturday’s race, the picture changed dramatically. Aegerter and his Kawasaki were perfectly in sync, which the experienced racer demonstrated right from the start with competitive lap times. At the end of the 40-minute session, his personal best time was the eighth-fastest, securing him a spot on the third row of the grid.
The race will start on Saturday at 3.00 pm CEST.

«Friday here in Estoril is done, and as I’ve mentioned several times before, we still have a lot of work ahead of us. But today, the team’s efforts and my own hard work have paid off, as I secured eighth place in Superpole this afternoon. That’s my best grid position so far this season, so I’m happy with. I’m also very happy that the team helped me improve and spurred me on right up until the end of the day to further fine-tune the bike and my feeling for it. On my fastest lap, we were a bit lucky not to run into any trouble due to a few yellow flags and slow ridings. I’m pleased to start the race from the third row on Saturday, and I hope to have more good news to share after the race. I’m feeling in great shape and the weather looks set to stay the same as it was today. So, the prospects are excellent for Race 1, where I’d like to give some of my sponsors who’ve come here something to cheer about. I’ll definitely be giving it my all and am counting on everyone’s support to ensure the Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R 636 is back right up there at the front.»
