2023/06/29 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2023: UK Round / Preview

Next stop: Donington Park after channel crossing

After a slightly longer break Dominique Aegerter returns to racing with his Italian GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team this weekend at the traditional English circuit Donington Park.

Round six of the 2023 FIM Superbike World Championship marks the start of a hectic month for teams and riders, with three race weekends on the schedule in July. Dominique Aegerter arrives in England well rested and in great shape. He has forgotten Sunday's botched race at Misano since long, whilst on the day before he gave Jonathan Rea all the multiple champion could handle in the battle for fifth place. In Donington in England’s East Midlands, the experienced 32-year-old Yamaha rider wants to get back to his usual performance, with which he has caused a sensation so far in his rookie season in the premier class.

As usual, the race weekend begins on Friday with two free practice sessions at 10:30am local time (11:30 CEST) and at 15:00pm local time (16:00 CEST), followed by free practice three on Saturday morning as well as the decisive Superpole qualifying session a few hours later and the first main race at 02:00pm local time (15:00 CEST) on the same day in the afternoon. Sunday's schedule includes the sprint race at 01:00pm time (14:00 CEST) and the second main race of the weekend at 04:00pm local time (17:00 CEST).

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)

"I am looking forward to the weekend in Donington, where I raced a year ago for the first time since 2007. Back then I was still competing in the 125cc World Championship. From my point of view, it was a super successful comeback at this track, which I like very much. So, I am going into my Superbike debut race at Donington with fond memories, because in 2022 I took pole position and two race wins. After Misano we once again had a long break, during which I trained hard to keep my body fit. But I also had the opportunity to ride with my private Yamaha R1 for one day. Summer has also arrived in Switzerland, so I spent a lot of time outdoors, especially with running and cycling."

"As I said, I like Donington with its varied track layout. There are some uphill and downhill sections – it is an «old school track” that is not very wide either. In England, the weather always plays a role. Hopefully we will be lucky and there will be many hours of sunshine. Otherwise, I am looking forward to seeing my GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK team again and working hard with them to show strong performances. I will give everything I have to finish in the top-10 again with what we had in the last races. The prerequisite for this is a grid position in the top two rows. For that and for strong results in the races, I will give everything."
