2023/06/01 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2023: Emilia-Romagna Round / Preview

Looking forward to Misano race weekend

For Dominique Aegerter, round five of the season at the Misano World Circuit not far from Italy's Adriatic coast will be a bit of a touchstone following surgery on his right forearm.

Immediately after the weather-related mixed test in Misano three weeks ago, Dominique Aegerter went to the operating room of the Nova Clinica in San Marino. Problems with arm pump syndrome were the reason for the necessary surgical intervention after Aegerter had been experiencing severe pain when riding his Superbike for some time. No complications occurred either during the operation or afterwards, so the 32-year-old Swiss is looking forward to the race weekend in Italy. In addition, the Yamaha rider, and his experienced crew of the Italian GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team have gained important insights from the test.

As usual, the race weekend starts on Friday with two free practice sessions at 10:30 and at 15:00 local time, followed by free practice three on Saturday morning as well as the decisive Superpole qualifying a bit later and the first main race of the weekend at 14:00 on Saturday.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)

"At our test two weeks ago in Misano, we had a bit of bad luck with the weather. Nevertheless, we were able to gather valuable data because we tried out some setup changes. These included the electronics and the tyres. Right after this test I had surgery on my forearm. Since then, I have been feeling better every day, and hopefully the general condition is better now than before, because in the last few races I have had quite a bit of pain when riding. So once again a big thank you to the medical team around Dr. Bitonti and the Clinica Mobile crew who organized everything. Thanks also go to the physiotherapists who took great care of me over the last two weeks, first in Italy and then at home in Switzerland, so that I could recover from this operation as quickly as possible."

"After this once again longer break, I am now looking forward to the race weekend in Misano. The goals remain the same as in Assen and most recently in Barcelona. First of all, I will try to do a good qualifying session. It would be nice to finish directly in the top five again. But if we finish every practice and all the races in the top 10, it would definitely be a good weekend from our point of view. Finally, I would like to encourage the people in the Emilia-Romagna region. Hopefully the situation has normalized to some extent, and everyone is doing well. I hope that with the race weekend in Misano we will give them a little break from the hard work of the last weeks. I am also looking forward to seeing my team again and Misano in general, where I have always liked the track. The layout is more demanding, and the surface offers more grip than last time in Barcelona. That is why riding is also different."
