2023/03/02 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2023: Indonesian Round - Preview

To shine again in front of fantastic fans in Indonesia

After the successful Superbike World Championship debut a few days ago in Australia, Dominique Aegerter already has the next opportunity to cause further surprises this weekend.

Virtually immediately after the season opener at Phillip Island, the World Championship directly move over to the next stop at an island, namely Lombok, neighbouring world-famous Bali in Indonesia. The Mandalika International Street Circuit is still a young venue, opened back in 2021, and experienced a difficult baptism of fire due to the climatic conditions, especially about to the surface conditions at previous events. The Superbike World Championship makes its third guest appearance at Lombok this week.

Dominique Aegerter made an impressive start to what is his rookie season in World Superbike Championship last weekend. Particularly noteworthy was his outstanding performance in Superpole, which he finished in third place on the starting grid. Something similar could have happened in Sunday's Superpole Race even the 32-year-old Swiss rider had not been innocently pulled out of the competition early on. Before that, he set another highlight with the fastest race lap. After finishing 13th in the rain race on Saturday, the GYTR GRT Yamaha team rider brought home seventh place with a fighting performance on Sunday afternoon.

Due to the seven-hour time difference to Indonesia, fans in Europe will once again have to get up early.  ServusTV offers the tried and tested live stream of the races on Saturday and Sunday. Pre-race coverage starts at 05:40 CET in each case and includes a recording of Superpole and the Superpole Race.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)

"I am looking forward to Mandalika, where there are nice memories and I like the track. I cannot wait to get to know the Mandalika Circuit with the Superbike. Especially because we arrived here right after the start of the season last weekend. My debut in World Superbike Championship was very positive. I think we have to continue in the same way at the second race weekend as we left off last Sunday. Hopefully the weather does not have any unpleasant surprises in store though, it definitely will be very hot. Mandalika is a very fast and flowing track."

"There is a section which is super-fast and flowing having several changes of direction that are going through at high speed. That is bound to be tricky, not only because it requires a lot of physical efforts and strength, but the muscles are also quite stressed. Apart from that, my goal is to continue the path we are on so that we always finish in the top-10. We will work hard to find a suitable setup as quickly as possible. I want to do well again in Superpole and, above all, finish the Superpole race strongly, but also not forgetting the two main races, of course. I am looking forward to this weekend and to seeing the fantastic Indonesian fans again."
