2022/10/21 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2022: Argentinean Round / Friday's FP Report

Fastest on Friday in hot San Juan

After Dominique Aegerter initially needed a few laps to find his around at the Circuito San Juan Villicum in Argentina, he turned the tables again in the final minutes of practice in the afternoon.

For the third last stop of this year's Supersport World Championship, teams and riders have set off for South America, where points will be fought this weekend in the remote northwest of Argentina. For many it was a long and arduous journey to San Juan, but on Friday morning at 09:30 local time everything was ready for the first free practice session of the weekend.

Unlike usual, current championship leader Dominique Aegerter started a little more cautiously. But after P9 in FP1, things really got going in the second session of the day, in which the 32-year-old Swiss rider was still able to set the fastest time of the day thanks to a brilliant final stage in FP2.

On Saturday morning, it's straight into Superpole before the first race gets underway at 1:30 p.m. local time (6:30 p.m. CET). While ServusTV will offer a live stream in German-speaking countries as usual, «Eurosport 2» will go on air ten minutes before the starting lights go out.

FP1: P9 - 1´43.278 / FP2: P1 - 1´42.271

"First of all, I would like to say that I am happy to be back here in Argentina, even if the journey is a bit arduous every time. Besides, it is nice to be able to travel a bit more freely again than in the past two years. I like this track, but in the first laps I needed some time to find the braking points and the ideal line again. The grip was not so good at the beginning either, but that got better with every lap. It all worked together, which is why some others were faster than me in the morning. But in the afternoon, we managed an important step when we worked mainly with used tyres and tried different gear ratios."

"The level is incredibly high in Supersport World Championship. To keep up with the top 10, you have to be very fast right from the start. But now I am looking forward to Saturday. The weather is fantastic, it is very hot, even if it is a bit windy at times. But that is not so bad, it does not bother anyway. It is a bit of a shame that I have to do without my crew chief this weekend. William (Huisjes) practically had to turn back on the trip to here because his wife is having a baby earlier than expected. I hope he is back with his family by now and wish them all the best for the birth. Otherwise, we are of course consistently in contact with each other. So far, the communication has worked quite well."
