2022/09/10 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2022: French Round / Saturday - Race 1

Back on the podium in Magny-Cours

Dominique Aegerter had to settle for third place on Saturday after the first race of the French round was abandoned on the lap 13.

Despite good weather, 31-year-old Dominique Aegerter had to contend with all kinds of circumstances on the first day of racing at the challenging Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in Burgundy. In Superpole, which decides the starting grid, the Swiss finished in fifth place, which meant a start from the second row.

In the afternoon, Aegerter lost one position at the start and another one on the next lap. As a result, there were fierce position battles in the leading group, which did not allow to find a smooth rhythm. Aegerter, however, always had the leaders in his sight. In about the lap ten, he was able to break away from his troublesome opponents and set off in pursuit of the leading duo with Lorenzo Baldassarri and Glenn van Straalen. On the twelfth lap, Aegerter set the fastest race lap. In doing so, he was close to catching up with the leaders before the race was red flagged one lap later due to a crash by another rider.

The second race of the weekend will start on Sunday at its usual time at 12:30 local time in France. It can be followed via Live-Stream on the internet platform of the Austrian rights holder ServusTV.com.

Grid position: 5th / Race 1: THIRD

"I am happy to be back on the podium and also back racing in Supersport World Championship. Today's race proved to be very complicated. In the first laps there was a lot of battles for positions, and I could not overtake as fast as I wanted. Finally, the race was stopped with the red flag. I hope the rider who fell is okay. Actually, I expected to get off to a better start into the second half of the season and fight all the way to the chequered flag today. However, a nice thing about this championship is that we have a second chance on Sunday. So, I hope we can fight for a strong result tomorrow. After not having so much practice time in good weather on Friday, the situation has improved overnight. Hopefully it will stay this nice. A big thank you to my Ten Kate team, they gave me again a very competitive bike."

"In terms of points, it is practically a fresh start to the season; the same way we started in Aragón. Our lead has shrunk dramatically. For now, it is down to five points. But the season is still long, there are still eleven races to go, and I am prepared for everything always giving everything to achieve our set goal in the end. In the last week, many things have come my way. First, I won the MotoE World Cup and then I got to test the MotoGP Suzuki. So, I rode three different bikes in a short time, but I am in a good momentum that I really want to keep. The MotoE title has given me a big boost. I think I deserved it because I had a very consistent season with ten podiums. But now I have put my focus completely on winning the Supersport World Championship. However, it looks like Baldassarri will not make it easy for us. Until tomorrow we will try to make further progress during warm-up and then we will see how the second race goes."
