2022/09/01 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2022: GP di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini / Preview

Thrilling MotoE™ showdown in Misano

At his third attempt, Dominique Aegerter finally wants to win the World Cup of the electric bike series this weekend.

A thrilling season finale of the fourth edition of the MotoE™ World Cup is just around the corner. The venue is once again the Misano World Circuit not far from Rimini at the Italian Adriatic coastline. Dominique Aegerter arrives as overall leader for the last two MotoE races of the year. After a double victory of his fiercest rival in the title fight, Eric Granado, most recently in Austria, Aegerter has lost 14 points to the Brazilian with a second and a third place. The cushion has melted to 17.5 points.

Nevertheless, the experienced 31-year-old Swiss rider holds all the aces to bring about the title decision under his own steam. Aegerter wants to do everything in his power to take overall victory in his third Cup season after finishing third overall in 2020 and runner-up last year.

The first race of the weekend will be broadcast live by SRF2, while the final on Sunday will be available as a stream. The broadcast will begin fifteen minutes before the start of each race. ServusTV also offers a stream of both races.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"Misano will be another exciting showdown for the MotoE title. I am highly motivated and have prepared myself optimally for this weekend. So far, our season has gone very well, in ten races we have been on the podium nine times and won three races. The worst result was a fourth place. Before the last two races, however, our lead has shrunk to 17.5 points. Nevertheless, the advantages are still with us. Spielberg was a positive weekend, even though it was not enough to win a race there."

"There are both good and bad memories of Misano. First and foremost, however, the good ones outweigh the bad. I like the track’s mostly fast and flowing layout and for me it is also like a home race because of the close location to Switzerland. I am sure there will be lots of fans from my home coming to support us. Although we are already approaching the season’s finale, I will approach the weekend the same way as all others. That means I will be starting preparation with a track walk on Thursday and work on a set-up during free practice sessions on Friday that will give me a good feeling for the bike."

"In qualifying, it would be important to get a front-row starting spot. As we saw in Spielberg, it can be difficult to get to the front if the first lap does not go as planned. The goal, of course, is to take the title. That is why it would be enormously important to finish ahead of Granado on Saturday. Theoretically, I could decide the Cup in the first race. But I am not worrying about that for the time being instead, I am preparing to fully attack twice. We have already won the runner-up title, but now we want the crown. I hope we have something really big to celebrate on Sunday."
