2022/07/15 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2022: UK Round / Friday's FP Report

Fastest on Friday at return to Donington

After 13 years, it didn't take long for Dominique Aegerter to get back into the swing of things at the tradition-steeped circuit not far from Nottingham.

2022 WorldSSP round five got underway in dry weather on Friday in Great Britain’s East Midlands. Dominique Aegerter was not entirely unfamiliar with the Donington Park circuit. Nevertheless, free practice one was served primarily to settle in again and create a base for the rest of the weekend. Sixth place with a small gap to this morning’s fastest lap time did not upset the experienced 31-year-old Swiss rider.

In slightly warmer conditions in the afternoon, it was Aegerter who set the pace at the front from the start until the Yamaha rider was the only one to lap under the 1´31 mark a few minutes before the end of both Friday's FP sessions.

The first race of the weekend will start on Saturday afternoon at 16:15 CET. As usual, there will be a live stream on ServusTV.com. The starting grid will be determined in Superpole from 11:25 to 11:45 CET, which will also be live-streamed.

FP1: P6 - 1´31.688 / FP2: P1 - 1´30.939

"I am happy to be back in Donington. The last time I was here was in 2009, when I was still racing in 125cc World Championship, and that occasion was also my single race at Donington so far. Therefore, the start of the weekend was no walk in the park. Although I had prepared well at home with watching races from previous years and onboard videos, it was not easy in the first practice, because a track always presents itself a little differently on the bike. The first laps felt like being on a new track so, it took some laps to explore the fastest lines and the braking points. But step by step I was able to develop a good feeling for the track and in the afternoon, we made a big step. I think we are on a good way and hopefully we will manage a decent qualifying tomorrow though, I am looking forward to the first race of the weekend."

"Apart from my homework, my team also drew up a detailed plan of how we should approach the weekend. They had data that helped us with the gear ratio and in addition, I knew how to go here. So, it was a bit easier than last year in Mandalika, for example, I was able to adapt much faster. I can also imagine that it was not difficult to see how comfortable I felt in the second practice. To finish FP2 in P1 should be the confirmation of that. Although we have been very successful at the last three race weekends, I am still not thinking about repeating a double win here. Our primary goal is to be on the podium in every race. It takes the whole team to achieve this. Everyone is doing its part to achieve this goal and to try to fight for victory. But the most important thing is to win the championship in the end. But I think we are in a good position to be at the top twice again. Nevertheless, I definitely would not say no to another one-two this weekend."
