2022/06/11 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2022: Emiglia-Romagna Round / Saturday - Race 1

Pole position and victory in first Misano race

Dominique Aegerter, however, was only able to celebrate his sixth consecutive win of the season at Parc Ferme.

By Saturday at the latest, glorious summer weather has returned to the popular vacation region around Rimini. During the day, temperatures reached peaks with more than 25 degrees. A light breeze provided some cooling in shady places, but this was denied to the riders on track. As expected, Saturday’s race took place in hot conditions in the afternoon.

But before that, Dominique Aegerter stormed to pole position with a new absolute track record. His fabulous time was more than 0.3 seconds below the old mark from 2015. In the race, the reigning WorldSSP champion was edged out until the first corner by Nicolo Bulega, who had started alongside him in second place. Subsequently, Aegerter gritted his teeth on the arrow-quick Ducati of the Italian. It took until the second last lap for Aegerter to find a way past Bulega, while Lorenzo Baldassarri was able to catch up with the two and join the fight for victory. Baldassarri saw the chequered flag first, but due to exceeding track limits once just before the line cost him victory.

The second race of the weekend will start on Sunday at 12:45 CET. It can be followed via live stream on the internet platform of the Austrian rights holder ServusTV.com. Eurosport 2 will show a recording of both races on Sunday evening from 18:30 CET.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6)
Grid position: Pole / Race 1: Winner

"It is not always as easy to win as it might have been in Estoril. Today I had to fight hard for victory from start to finish because Bulega's Ducati was very fast. It was very difficult to overtake him because he often chose a different line. He was also very consistent and even managed to build up a lead of up to two seconds. Although I was very fast in the first five or six laps, I was able to close the gap and attack only shortly before the end of the race, after I had changed my riding a bit. On the last lap I took the lead before the first corner and actually thought I could stay in front. But in the next turn Baldassarri pushed past on the inside. This action was close to the limit. Since I did not want to settle with second place, I tried it again in the third last corner, which almost worked out. But Baldassarri managed to pass me again. But in the next turn he went over the track’s limit."

"In the in-lap, I was not sure at first if the race direction would drop him a position back. But at Parc Ferme I saw the beaming faces of my team and they also told me right away that I was the winner. Nevertheless, it was a super exciting and awesome race, even though the heat made it very exhausting. Until tomorrow we have the chance to analyze everything and see how and where we can improve so that we are a bit stronger right from the start. Nevertheless, I am very happy with the work my Ten Kate team has done so far this weekend, especially as we set a fantastic new lap record this morning. This 1´37.1 in Superpole is a very strong time. So, a big thank you to them straight away. Misano has always been a home race for me. I enjoy the atmosphere of the Italian fans, but also many Swiss fans come here every time and make their presence felt with «77» flags on the grandstands. It could not be nicer; I am already fully motivated for tomorrow."
