Dominique Aegerter finished free practice sessions at this weekend's third Supersport World Championship meeting of the season in Portugal with a half-second lead over his first contender.
Overcast skies above the Circuito do Estoril and sweltering conditions were a consistent accompanion on Friday at the 4.1-kilometer track not far from the Atlantic coast. For Dominique Aegerter, both free practice sessions went almost perfectly. After he closed FP1 in P2, the reigning champion set the pace in the afternoon in impressive form. In much warmer temperatures than at lunchtime, Aegerter rode as if unleashed during this 45-minute-long session and left no doubt that he also wants to score the maximum number of points this weekend again.
The first race of the weekend starts on Saturday afternoon at 16:15 CET, which can be followed via live stream on ServusTV.com. Before that, the starting grid for the seventh race of the season will be determined in Superpole from 11:25 CET.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6)
FP1: P2 - 1´40.433 / FP2: P1 - 1´39.806
"It was a very good Friday for us here in Estoril, I cannot complain about anything. Although it was very hot, the track’s conditions were fine at all times. Besides, I have always liked Estoril. This circumstance has contributed a little to the fact that I felt very comfortable from the beginning. Our plan for today was to set a fast lap and at the same time working on a strong pace. We managed to do both. Therefore, we should be optimally prepared for Superpole and the first race on Saturday afternoon. Hopefully the weather will remain stable, even though some forecasts are predicting scattered rain."
"The Supersport World Championship recently took a four-weeks break, whereas I was in action twice in MotoE though, after Le Mans, I was really looking forward to seeing my Ten Kate team again. The technicians have once again done a great job in the last four weeks to improve the bike but also my crew did a fantastic job again today and gave me a very fast and very consistent bike. After this strong start and not at least because of my first win in this championship here last year, I want to win both races here, of course. Hopefully we can do that on Saturday and Sunday. I definitely will give everything to achieve that goal."
