2022/05/14 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2022: Grand Prix de France / Saturday - Race 1

Fast and furious comeback crowned with second place

From halfway point at least in Saturday’s first race of the French MotoE™ round, Dominique Aegerter was the fastest rider on track at the historic Le Mans.

Leaving the line from second spot on the starting grid, Dominique Aegerter just needed a few laps to get going into swings in fine weather on Saturday afternoon. But once he found his rhythm, the 31-year-old professional rider pulled hard on the cable of his Italian Energica MotoE™ machine. Virtually in the blink of an eye, he closed a gap of 1.5 seconds on Hikari Okubo, who was riding in front of him in third position. After catching him, Aegerter did not hesitate for long and started a successful attack on the Japanese rider. In the last corner before the chequered flag, Aegerter moved up one position as Italian rider Kevin Zannoni took a tumble in the battle for victory.

Start time for the second race of the weekend in France is Sunday at 15:30 CET. SRF will start the Livestream ten minutes before the start. This can be seen at srf.ch/sport or in the SRF sports app.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica)
Grid position: P2 / Race 1: P2 +0.826:

"It is a fantastic feeling to be on the podium again and these 20 points are incredibly important for the overall standings. I came from second on the front row and would have assumed that there would be more fights at the beginning. But it did not come to that, there were no big battles at all. Apart from that, in the first two or three laps I did not feel one hundred percent comfortable with the bike. During this stage I lost a lot of time to the leading group. But from the fourth lap at the latest, the confidence was there again. From then on, I was able to push as hard. In the process, I was able to close the gap to Okubo quickly and also overtake him."

"On the last lap, luck was a little on my side when Zannoni crashed. I was happy to take the second place because it secured us second place in the overall standings a little bit and, more importantly, we reduced the gap to the leader. I am looking forward to the race on Sunday when we will have a second chance to fight for the win. My bike feels greatly, I just have to get the first laps better. It is incredibly nice that so many fans were watching us again today. Without any engine noise, you can hear their cheers well during out and in lap. So far, the weather has been very nice this weekend. Hopefully it will stay similar tomorrow, even though our job is very strenuous in these warm temperatures. Still, it is fun to race here. A big thank you to my Dynavolt Intact GP team, we will continue like this."
