2022/03/19 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2022: Less findings during Aragón test

Despite much patience, little achieved in Aragón

For Dominique Aegerter and his Dutch Ten Kate team, the first tests this year were not under a good star due to poor weather conditions.

At a much too cool eight degrees on the past two days at the Spanish circuit MotorLand Aragón located in the outback of the country’s east coast it was not reasonable for proper work on track. 27 laps on day one and no 20 at the second day were nowhere near what Dominique Aegerter and his Yamaha team, who are going into the 2022 FIM Supersport World Championship as defending champions, had in mind or having in their testing agenda. On Thursday morning, Aegerter was recorded with a 1'54.752, which meant second place after the end of this two-day testing on Friday afternoon. Due to the cold conditions, lap times were generally two to three seconds off the lap records or competitive lap times, which meant that various basic test work, such as on the engine brake, could not provide any insightful findings.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6):

"My first Supersport test after the long winter break started quite well, as the first session on Thursday was still halfway usable. Unfortunately, the weather then no longer played along, as well as the temperatures were very cold on both days. Asphalt values of maximum nine, ten degrees did not allow reasonable work with the bike on track. Nevertheless, we did not let the dry conditions go to waste at lunchtime yesterday in order to try out a few things on the brakes and in the aerodynamic area. I started well and felt very comfortable with my Yamaha R6 immediately. But later it started to drizzle and in half-wet track conditions it did not make sense to continue our programme."

"On Friday, the weather was totally forgettable. The schedule would have included two sessions with two hours of track time each again. In the morning we did a few laps on a semi-wet/semi-dry track, which was absolutely for nothing. In the afternoon, the track was dry, but it kept drizzling a bit. So, in the five or six laps we were out there but no big conclusions were possible. In general, we were not able to work on or try out anything great. Winter testing can be like that because you cannot do anything about the weather. This weekend I will continue my training in the area of Barcelona before going to Estoril for the next WorldSSP test on Monday. Unfortunately, the forecasts for there do not look any better either. But there are still a few days until Tuesday and hopefully the situation will change by then so that the sun will come out more often than on the past two days in Aragón."
