2021/05/20 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Aragon Round / Preview

Opening round of 2021 Supersport World Championship in Aragón

This weekend, Dominique Aegerter eagerly awaits his debut race debut aboard a production-based 600cc Supersport bikes.

30-year-old all-rounder Dominique Aegerter has mastered the changeover to the Yamaha YZF R6 of his Dutch Ten Kate Racing team effortlessly. During pre-season testing, he made people sit up and take notice with best times at almost every opportunity. But the start into the championship, which is new for him, contains many unknown factors. That is why Aegerter is going into the opening race weekend in Spain without any great expectations, despite having successfully completed his preparation for the season. Most recently, he finished the first two races of the FIM MotoE™ World Cup season earlier this month in Jerez and last weekend in Le Mans in third and fourth place, respectively.

The WorldSSP is held as part of the FIM Superbike World Championship. The 2021 World Championship calendar contains 13 events, with two races on the schedule each weekend.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6):

"I am really looking forward to my first race weekend in Supersport World Championship. But I have to admit honestly that I am a little bit nervous. I have been racing in Grand Prix sports for many years but moving to this series is a completely new challenge for me. Fortunately, I came to a highly professional racing family at Ten Kate Racing, where I feel I am in great hands in this environment. So, I am looking forward to the tasks ahead of us. Actually, we can look forward to the season opener calmly, because we had a very positive test in Aragón, among other things. We were very fast at that occasion. So, from Friday onwards, from the first practice session, we will be focusing on getting good positions for the team, as well as getting the bike set-up as good as possible for this track."

"Apart from that, it should not be a big thing to change my riding coming from the MotoE bike to the Supersport machine. The differences between these bikes are huge, but I have been in this situation several times this year already. Therefore, it should not be that big task. I am also excited to see how things will go in this championship, as everything will be new for me. This includes the schedule with two races at one weekend. In the past I often have been practicing and riding with a 600cc bike, but I have never raced with it. So, this is the most exciting thing that awaits me. But I feel ready for anything and I hardly can wait to get back aboard the Yamaha and go full throttle. So far, I have already settled in well and made friends in this new for me paddock. But there is one thing I am having a hard time getting used to, and by that, I mean the blue race number, since the yellow «77» is a trademark of mine. But that is's the way the rules are here."
