2021/05/13 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup: Grand Prix de France / Preview

Next stop on title winning mission: Le Mans

More points in the bag than ahead of the second race of the season a year ago providing Dominique Aegerter a good feeling for the upcoming race weekend in France.

Even bleak weather forecasts for the next few days in Le Mans cannot harm 30-year-old Swiss rider Dominique Aegerter. Currently second in FIM MotoE™ World Cup, he wants to maintain his consistently strong form since the start of pre-season testing and take another important step towards winning the title this Sunday. A second-place finish at the season’s opener a week and a half ago in Jerez de la Frontera, southern Spain, was certainly a successful start to this endeavour. Nevertheless, caution is advised in rainy, cold, and wet weather at the slippery Le Mans asphalt.

As usual, the electric bike series will also open race day as part of the Grand Prix de France in the early morning at 10:05 CET this Sunday.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"A first look at the weather forecasts for the weekend makes me a little pensive. It is supposed to be rainy, which will definitely affect the short practice session. So, it will not be an easy affair, but conditions are the same for everyone. I come to the second race of the season with 20 points. Compared to 2020 when the Cup started, that is a few more and this gives me a good feeling. After the Jerez race, I spent the break with my family at home in Switzerland and of course I also continued my training so that I come to Le Mans well prepared. I have known the track for many years. But with the MotoE bike only since last year, where I had unbelievable bad luck in the first race."

"Back then, I was involved in an accident at turn one right after the start. That had such as worse consequences for the second race, as I had to start from the very far end of the starting grid. Nevertheless, I still finished fourth after a strong race. But that is ancient history. This weekend we will take it easy for now and see what the weather will actually do. But I have full confidence in my team that they will make the right decisions and take the right path. I know I am fast, so I am confident that we will do well this weekend. Finally, I think it is a shame that no spectators are allowed to come at all this time. Last October at least a few hundred were allowed. Hopefully, this situation will change again very soon."
