Dominique Aegerter is right on track with preparations for his rookie season in Supersport World Championship.
Although Dominique Aegerter and his Ten Kate Racing Team had to painfully forgo a test in Navarra scheduled for last Saturday, the 30-year-old is looking forward with confidence to the Championship’s opening round in Spain later this May. Aegerter also finished a two-day test this week at the circuit of MotorLand Aragón as fastest rider on track.
After several tests aboard the production-based 600cc Yamaha machine, the all-rounder will switch back to the MotoE™ bike next week when the final pre-season testing is scheduled at the Circuito de Jerez in southern Spain for this year’s World Cup in the electric bike series.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6):
"Unfortunately, we had to change our program for last week a bit, because a planned test at the Circuito de Navarra had to be cancelled at short notice. That was a great pity, because I do not know this track yet and a Supersport World Championship race will be held there for the first time in August. So, it would have been an important date in many respects. But we were even more working diligently this week at MotorLand. On the first day, however, the conditions were less than ideal because of strong winds. It was not easy out on track. Therefore, the lap times were not very meaningful. Nevertheless, we went through our program and found out some interesting things regarding chassis set-up and engine braking."
"On Wednesday, conditions were much better. The strong winds had been disappeared and thanks to lots of sunshine, the track temperatures allowed us to work properly. My team again did a good job in moving the bike forward a bit again. I felt wonderfully comfortable and tried to push to the limit in every lap. For the first time we also did a race simulation. Compared to the Aragón races of previous years, our pace was extraordinarily strong. I think our consistency will be our strength, while we still need to improve a bit for a single fast lap. In this matter, we still need to better understand the grip level with fresh tyres during the first two or three laps. Overall, it was another successful test. It's fun to work with the Ten Kate team and we also receive excellent support from Yamaha."
"However, there were not so much WorldSSP teams and riders at Aragón. So, there was a lack of direct comparison. But after two days we were on top of the timesheet with a 0.5-second lead over the next rider. That is certainly reassuring. So, all in all, we are right on track for the start of the racing season. Another one-day test is planned in Assen in two weeks' time. Hopefully, the weather will be halfway cooperative on that date. Before that, however, I will switch back to the MotoE bike. From Monday to Wednesday next week there will be another official test in Jerez. But after this long winter break, I am really looking forward to the first race, regardless of the bike I will ride. I am a racer and I finally want to fight for points and podiums with all other contenders on track."
