2020/11/22 - FIM Moto2™ World Championship: Grande Prémio de Portugal / Race Report

#PortugueseGP: Outcome of the rollercoaster weekend imagined differently

In the last race of the season Dominique Aegerter did not get beyond 20th place in his short-term assignment for the Dutch NTS RW Racing Team.

The Moto2™ World Championship 2020 is already history after Sunday's race at Portimao’s rollercoaster. Fantastic weather throughout the weekend provided the appropriate settings for the title decision. With Italian rider Enea Bastianini a worthy champion was crowned. Dominique Aegerter and NTS RW Racing GP congratulate the new Moto2™ World Champion.

Aegerter entered the race at the unique rollercoaster track not far from the famous Algarve coastline in southern Portugal with high expectations. From his point of view, race day also started quite promising. P14 in this morning’s warm-up session increased his hope to fight his way forward from 22nd spot on the starting grid in the final showdown. But soon after a good start, Aegerter could not keep up with the high pace of the competition.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (NTS RW Racing GP, NTS), P20 +44.924:

"It is a bit annoying that I could not meet our expectations in the race. I would have liked to see myself further ahead. But we had to fight with unusual difficulties today. Above all, there was a lack of braking stability in corner entry. That was also mainly the cause of some fright moments when I almost crashed several times. Of course, this had a negative effect on my confidence with the front. So, I had to slow down a bit and ride very smooth until the end to regain some confidence."

"Unfortunately, I did not succeed in doing so. Therefore, it is a pity for me, as well as for RW Racing, that we could not finish the last race of the season in points because we had the potential for. Nevertheless, a big thank you to them for giving me their bike again this weekend. It was again a great pleasure to work with them and NTS. Let us see, maybe there will be another opportunity like this in the future. I would be incredibly happy about it. But before that I would like to thank everyone who made this possible."
