2020/10/09 - MotoE™ World Cup: GP de France / FP Report

#FrenchGP: Good feeling for Le Mans on rainy Friday

After a cautious scanning to the unusual conditions, Dominique Aegerter quickly found his normal speed again on drying track.

The season’s finale of the MotoE™ World Cup at this weekend’s Grand Prix de France got started in changeable weather conditions. Until the early afternoon it started several times to drizzle slightly, and sometimes even more. During the first free practice session, Dominique Aegerter, who is fighting for the Cup title this weekend, made his first experience with the electric bike on a rain-soaked track. But as soon conditions improved towards the afternoon, the 30-year-old Rohrbacher perhaps went out on track a little bit too early, when it still was still wet in some places.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), FP1: P16 - 1´58.422 (10/12) / FP2: P10 - 1´45.251 (6/9):

"This morning’s FP1 was a completely new experience for me. On the one hand, because I had never ridden a MotoE bike in the wet before and in addition at a track that I had never been before with this machine. Therefore, the changeover took a few laps, as well as getting used to the Michelin rain tyres. But in the end, we were able to put in many laps and my feeling got better and better. But the gap to the top was a bit too much for my taste. In the afternoon, the track dried out quicker and got more dry than we have thought. So maybe our timing was not quite right. We went out as one of the first, when the track was still damp in one or two corners. Many other riders on the other hand stayed in to wait and see, and maybe they also played a little poker with the tyres."

"But as long as I was doing my laps consistently, I was always at the top of the time monitor. That is definitely a good sign. Furthermore, I felt amazingly comfortable with the bike, both in the wet and in the dry. So, we are working well again, my crew is doing a perfect job. We also have a lot of valuable data from today’s two sessions, which we can analyse now. But in general, we have not done so many laps so far and tomorrow there will be just one lap in E-Pole. That is all for the preparation for the first race. For the qualifying lap in E-Pole we will certainly have the opportunity to change a few settings, but in this one lap everything has to fit right away. The race will then give us more information. In any case we want to fight with the front runners. I will give everything to be at the top in the end."
