A ruthless action from another rider deprived the sensational rookie of the electric bike racing series of his chance to win the second race of the Misano weekend either.
After the superb victory on the previous before, Dominique Aegerter headed with double motivation into the fifth race of the season on Sunday morning. Everything seemed to go according to plan. With a blistering start from pole position, the 29-year-old Swiss immediately took the lead in the race. In lap two, however, the race-decisive incident occurred in turn two when another rider was much too fast at this point and crashed fully into the rear of Aegerter's bike. Aegerter was able to continue the race but did not make it back into the points. In the cup classification he slipped back to second place overall. The MotoE™ World Cup 2020 will end in three weeks with two races in Le Mans.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), Pole-Position / P16:
"I am terribly angry and disappointed because I could not do anything. After I had a great start again today and took the lead right away, it is of course twice as annoying to have to go home without points just because of a stupid manoeuvre from an opponent. Fortunately, nothing happened, and the bike did not damage either. So, I could continue my race. Unfortunately, it took some time to pick up this heavy thing. At first, I was slightly hoping that the red flag would come out. That would have given me a second chance. But honestly, it was not necessary at all because the track marshals were fast cleaning the place of happening. In the remaining six laps you simply cannot catch up that much in this category if you end up in the gravel bed for a short time."
"It is a pity and I feel deeply sorry for my team because I would have been ready to fight for victory again. I immediately felt comfortable with the bike. An incident like this happens in racing again and again but today it hit me. Still, it is always a bad story when another rider brings you to fall because of such a stupid action. But at Le Mans we still have two possibilities to make up for this setback. Nothing is lost in the Cup standings yet. We will work hard and concentrated to make up the minimal gap and turn the tables again. Nevertheless, thanks to my crew for the great job they have done once again."
