Dominique Aegerter was able to celebrate his second race win in the electric bike racing series after a dramatic last lap encounter. In contrast to his first victory, the Swiss all-rounder stormed in the final stages only to the top of the field.
The second weekend of the double pack close to Italy’s Adriatic coastline did not start according to Dominique Aegerter's taste yet. After free practice sessions, the 29-year-old rider from Rohrbach found himself in seventh place, something more than half a second off Friday’s best time. As overall leader in MotoE™ World Cup, he naturally wanted to be right at the top right from the start. But until E-Pole on Saturday at lunch time, his technical crew managed to get the right click regarding the bike’s set-up. In this time attack, which decided the starting grid, Aegerter felt much better and he finally took P3 in the first row. From this starting position he had to fight off some annoying opponents at first before he was able to surprise the leading duo thanks to clever moves in the final phase of the fight for the first race victory this weekend.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), Grid position 3 / Winner:
"I am overjoyed because it is never easy to win. But today I was exceptionally good and rode a well-considered race. Above all, I was incredibly strong again on the last lap. It was like last Sunday as I managed to pass Jordi Torres and Matteo Ferrari. I think it was the perfect last lap. But it was a hard fight with both, because they are very fast, and they are very good at everything. To battle with riders of the strength and experience like them, it is twice as much fun to fight for victory right up to the end. But right after the start it all began with hard fights for positions. At the beginning I was no less busy with Xavier Simeon when I got passed by him two or three times. In this stage I had to stay calm and concentrated so that I did not make a mistake, otherwise the front runners would have been gone. After that I gave everything until the finish line and managed to take my second race win this year finally."
"I dedicate this victory entirely to my crew. They did a great job on Friday as they understood exactly how to reassure me after we did not start the weekend very quickly because after free practice sessions, there was still a lot missing for us to be able to have a say. They worked incredibly hard, which finally brought us a big step forward for E-Pole. My Energica bike worked greatly today. So, a big thank you to them, and to the whole team for their efforts. For the second race on Sunday we now have the best starting position, as we will start from pole position. I hope we can repeat today's performance and have a great race either. But we cannot afford to sit back. Jordi and Matteo are sitting in our neck and I'm sure they feel a great desire to return the favours at the very first opportunity."
"Therefore, it can be assumed that it will be a big battle again and of course I would be very happy if we can provide the fans here at the race track or at home in front of the TV a great show again. I hope that everyone will switch on at 10 o'clock or be in their seats on time. Regarding the tactics, it promises a lot of excitement in advance. The conditions tomorrow morning will be completely different than this afternoon. In cooler temperatures, the field could be a bit mixed. So, there could be riders appear in front who did not play a role today. The lap times will definitely be faster. But we should actually be well prepared for everything. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to it."
