2020/09/13 - MotoE™ World Cup: GP di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini / Race Report

#SanMarinoGP: Strong third to finish on the podium again

Thanks to a fantastic last lap in the third race of the season in Misano, Dominique Aegerter extends his lead in the MotoE™ World Cup.

After three Moto2™ Grand Prix as a replacement for his ill compatriot Jesko Raffin last month, Dominique Aegerter did not need long to get used to his electric racing machine of the German Dynavolt Intact GP Team again. The experienced 29-year-old Swiss rider, however, was initially a little uneasy with the Misano track. But at the least during Sunday’s race, Aegerter found his momentum again, with which the E-Bike rookie had already impressively surprised at the opening races in Jerez.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), P3:

"I am super happy. It was a hard and at the same time a very entertaining race, there were an incredible number of fights. But most of all I am happy that after a difficult weekend we managed to achieve this success. For me it was the first time with the MotoE bike here in Misano. So, we had some difficulties at the beginning because during free practice sessions it is hardly possible to try a lot of things due to of the short track time. But my crew put in an incredible effort and always helped me to go faster. But it was not until the race that I understood how I had to ride this bike on this track to get faster lap times. Unfortunately, I made two or three small mistakes. That is why I lost direct contact with the leading group occasionally. In the fight with Jordi Torres and Mike di Meglio it was sometimes very tough. But this close affair was also a lot of fun. When I was finally able to leave both behind me, I immediately tried to pull away and catch up with the leading group. Our pace was really strong and so I was able to catch up well until the end."

"The last lap was overly exciting. I felt that it was possible and so I gave my all once again. In the end, I made it to the podium again. But more importantly, I was able to leave my strongest rivals in the Cup standings behind me and thus extend my overall lead a little bit. Now I am really looking forward to having two more races at this track in a week. Hopefully, we can benefit from this weekend's experience so that we can start at a stronger level. After today's beautiful conclusion of this event, our focus is already on the task ahead. But before that all my thanks go to my team and all sponsors for their hard work and support. Finally, I would also like to express my great praise to the organizers for their concept of bringing spectators to the racetrack. It was a nice feeling to finally see some Swiss flags with the "77" along the track again. The fans simply belong to our sport and hopefully we were able to offer them a good show."
