2020/08/23 - Moto2™ World Championship 2020: GP of Styria / Race Report

#StyrianGP: «Lots of positive impressions gained»

For the 29-year-old Moto2™ rider, however, the second Spielberg race came to a prematurely end when he had to enter the pits involuntarily at halfway point of the distance.

Swiss native Dominique Aegerter had imagined his farewell to NTS RW Racing GP with a more pleasant outcome. Regardless of technical issues he suffered on Sunday at the ultra-fast Red Bull Ring in Styria, the last three races were a welcome opportunity for the ambitious racer from the canton of Bern to gain valuable experience as well as to bridge the long break until the next MotoE race.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (NTS RW Racing GP, NTS) - NC (Championship Position 22nd, 4 Points):

"Race day actually started very pleasantly, as we were able to improve a bit during warm-up in the morning. But the mishap was that our qualifying went wrong yesterday. But it speaks for the spirit of RW Racing and NTS that they work incredibly hard and always try to make further progress. Therefore, I think that this weekend we were closer to the top guys overall. Our gap was mostly in the range of seven-tenths of a second to a maximum of one second. Only qualifying did not fit into this pattern. That is why the prospects for the race were diminished from the outset, as we had to start from 28th spot on the starting grid. But I managed a super start and I also was strong in the first few laps. I was able to move forward to P18 very quickly. Once there, I was in a group that was fighting for the last points."

"Unfortunately, after about ten laps technical problems occurred. A few laps later I had to stop. It Is a pity that I was not able to bring the bike home in what was my last assignment for RW Racing. Originally, I wanted to say goodbye with a decent result and to pay something back for their trust. They would have really earned it for their hard work. Despite this unpleasant outcome I would like to thank RW Racing and NTS for giving me the possibility to race at the last three grand prix for them. It was a great time and I was able to gain a lot of positive impressions. I also got a very warm welcome from this racing family, I felt amazingly comfortable from the very first beginning. This nest warmth is particularly important for a rider. Spielberg II was my last Moto2 race until further notice. Hopefully one day I can come back to this category which I love so much and show my potential again. But before that, I wish Jesko Raffin all the best for his recovery, that he can hopefully work with his crew in Misano again. I, on the other hand, will be competing there in MotoE again and will concentrate fully on this task."
