2020/08/21 - Moto2™ World Championship 2020: GP of Styria / FP Report

#StyrianGP: Positive start into second Spielberg weekend

On Friday in Styria, Dominique Aegerter immediately was able to do the same lap times as a week ago in qualifying.

Round six of the season of the Moto2™ World Championship has commenced in beautiful summer weather. At optimal track conditions Dominique Aegerter and his crew in the RW Racing Team managed a promising start into the weekend. Aegerter finished in P18 in the combined practice times of both Friday’s free sessions and he is now flirting with a qualification for the second phase of the time attack, when the best spots on the starting grid are matched out. By the way, the 29-year-old Swiss will again replace his compatriot Jesko Raffin in the Dutch racing team this weekend.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (NTS RW Racing GP, NTS), FP1: P18 - 1´29.528 (19/21) / FP2: P21 - 1´29.975 (7/21):

"We started well into the weekend; I am satisfied so far. Both, the first and second practice session went according to plan. But I am most happy about the fact that we were immediately as fast as we were a week ago in qualifying. However, the competition did not stop to go faster either. At the end of the day, we finished in 18th place, eight tenths of a second off today’s best marker, so the gap is very narrow again. The cooperation with my crew is getting better and better, they did a great job again. We are definitely working in the right direction because my feeling for the bike is getting better and better. So, my thanks to the whole team for their efforts."

"The short break at home in Switzerland was the right decision I did; it was the perfect preparation for this second Spielberg race. I think the first practice sessions showed that. After this positive start I hope that the weather will stay nice. According to the forecast there will be a few rain showers on Saturday and Sunday. A week ago, however, it was also said that it should rain. But in the end, we always had a dry track until the end. I think we should not take too much note by this. It is much more important to stay focused and keep going the way we have been going. I will give everything on Saturday to fight for a good starting position. Maybe we can even make it into Q2 for the first time. That would certainly be a first success this weekend. Now there's not much missing for it."
