2020/08/07 - Moto2™ World Championship 2020: GP Ceske republiky / FP Report

Dominique AEGERTER: «The changeover was blatant»

For the 29-year-old Swiss professional rider, the change from his usual MotoE™ machine, he is racing with this year, to the thoroughbred Grand Prix prototype was like jumping into ice-cold water.

Nevertheless, Dominique Aegerter managed to pull himself out of trouble on the first day of practice at the Czech Grand Prix. Without previous testings, the rider from the canton of Berne was impressively able to improve step by step during both free sessions of the day. FP2 in the afternoon brought a decisive progress, as Aegerter was able to race almost 1.5 seconds faster after adjustments to the bike’s set-up.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (NTS RW Racing GP, NTS), FP1: P29 - 2´05.313 (5/15) / FP2: P22 - 2´03.965 (10/15):

"First of all, I would like to mention again that I am incredibly happy to be able to ride in Moto2 again. So again, my thanks to RW Racing and NTS for asking me. At this point also all the best to Jesko Raffin that he will soon be 100 percent fit again. I think my experience has also contributed a little bit to this decision. I was in this class for ten years and I gained experiences with four different chassis in this time. The beginning was nevertheless difficult today, after almost a year without riding a Moto2 bike. I first had to get used to shifting again, as well as the power delivery and engine performance are quite different. Also, the sound of these machines was a change, I miss that a lot overall. All this is missing with the MotoE bike. The change was really crass."

"But I quickly got everything under control and then we were able to improve continuously. For the second session we managed to take a clear step. I felt much more comfortable and therefore I could go much more to the limits. I think our gap of only 1.4 seconds to the day’s fastest lap time is quite impressive after just two times 16 laps. So far, we are performing quite good at all. But with this gap, we are unfortunately only at the bottom of the timesheet due to this tight competition of this category. This is the less pleasant aspect after the opening day here at Brno. So tomorrow we will try to improve further and make steps moving forward the rankings. My goal is still to make a strong impression this weekend."
