2020/07/19 - MotoE™ World Cup 2020: GP de Espana / Race

Strong debut with podium finish in Jerez

In what was his first ever contest aboard the Energica MotoE bike, Dominique Aegerter finished in a fashionable third place making the step on the podium in hot Spain.

Dominique Aegerter can be quite satisfied with his balance at the late start of the season. With consistently strong performances during both days of practice, the basis for this great success on Sunday was created. But the 29-year-old Rohrbacher had to do a lot for this. After a botched opening lap, Aegerter, who started from third place on the grid starting, had to fight his way back to the front lap by lap.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), P3:

"I am satisfied with my debut in the World Cup. Third place is a nice conclusion to the first race weekend though. But the race itself was again a completely new experience. I actually got a good start, but up to the first corner I got passed by many other riders. I think that I have a small disadvantage regarding my body weight so, I will not eat anything more this week so that this won't happen again next Sunday. No, of course not. The first lap was not my strong point today, I dropped down the order by far too much."

"At this short race distance, which has even been shortened by another lap from seven to six due to the heat, it is an act of violence to come back to the front. In addition, overtaking is not exactly easy because all riders sitting on the same bike. But up to the finish I was able to overtake four riders. In the end, it was enough for the podium. For the first race that is certainly not so bad. We can be satisfied with that and look forward to the next race with confidence."

"I am incredibly happy that the racing season has finally got started. So once again my thanks to all who made this possible. This includes of course my entire team and all sponsors who support this project despite these most difficult times and continue to operate it to the full extent. But it was a strange atmosphere because we all miss the fans on the stands. Not to see a Swiss flag with the 77 at all, I find it hard to get used to it. Hopefully, the fans still had fun watching me on TV and keeping their fingers crossed at home. Next weekend we will continue here in Jerez with more experience. We'll work hard from the first practice session onwards, so that we will be at the top on Sunday."
