2020/07/18 - MotoE™ World Cup 2020: GP de Espana / E-Pole

In debut E-Pole front row start secured

After initial nervousness, Dominique Aegerter managed to confirm in MotoE’s qualifying session for the starting grid that it is already to count with him in what is his debut race on Sunday.

So far this weekend, Dominique Aegerter has caused the competition to raise their eyebrows. The newcomer to the MotoE™ World Cup has been at the fierce end of the competition during almost every training session. After topping Wednesday’s testing time sheets, Aegerter ended up two time in second places in the free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday. In the so-called E-Pole which sees a qualifying mode with only one flying lap, which was previously unknown to Aegerter, the 29-year-old from Rohrbach secured an excellent starting position for the opening race on Sunday morning with third place on the grid.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), Grid position 3rd - 1´48.876:

"Before my first E-Pole I was extremely nervous. Because of the starting order I had to wait an exceptionally long time. However, I was able to watch and observe many competitors at my leisure. But before I got on the bike, I was already sweating so badly. When I was finally allowed to go out on track, the red flag came out because of the crash of Nicolo Canepa. That was bad luck because I had to cruise around two laps until I got the green light to start my time attack. With the high asphalt temperatures this immediately had a negative effect on the tyre grip. In addition, the battery was already a bit hot and used up then."

"That was perhaps a small disadvantage, but I am satisfied with my lap. I am happy that I can start from the front row as third in my debut in this category. This is certainly incredibly positive for me and my team. The base work for this, we managed to do during free practice sessions. Since the first laps of the test last on Wednesday I have felt very comfortable. However, in yesterday's afternoon session, I had little issues to match my lap time from FP1 due to the extreme heat. Ending up in fifth place was a bit too far from the fastest for my taste. But this morning we got back on track straight away. So as second in FP3 I had to go second last in the E-Pole."

"But in the race, I also want to be right up front. I am already curious about how things will go tomorrow. During this sprint race you may not afford to make any mistakes and you have to pay attention to the battery consumption. These things will definitely be a recipe for success. Fortunately, we start at 10 o'clock in the morning. So, it will be a bit more pleasant in terms of temperatures. Anyway, I am already looking forward to this new challenge. But before I do, I'd like to thank my crew for their great job and all the people involved in making it possible for us to start the season this weekend."
