The 29-year-old MotoE™ newcomer from the canton of Bern is flirting with a small sensation at his premiere in Jerez.

This weekend, the FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2020 kicks off at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in southern Spain, because immediately after the first official test in mid-March the world came to an unprecedented standstill. For a long time afterwards, there was only uncertainty about how things would continue.

However, a completely revised calendar has been available for a few weeks now, which includes three events with a total of seven races for this season. However, teams and riders have to face a huge challenge at the season opener. Midst of summer in Andalusia, temperatures of up to 40 degrees are not uncommon. A one-day test in the run-up to the first race weekend after the long break already gave a foretaste of what to expect this weekend and next at the Circuito de Jerez.

Dominique Aegerter has been a constant in the intermediate Grand Prix category since the introduction of the Moto2™ class back in 2010. But as he could not find a promising project for this year, the ambitious athlete from Rohrbach changed to the German Dynavolt Intact GP Team. Aegerter apparently mastered the changeover to the electrically powered race bike machine without any problems. After finishing the first test four months ago in third place, he shone with the fastest lap time in every session on Wednesday.

"I am incredibly happy that we can finally get going with the first race. The long wait and the uncertainty as to whether there would be any races at all this year sometimes made me nervous. I am the type of person who cannot stand doing nothing for exceedingly long. The fitness training at home was a welcome change at the beginning, but soon I missed motorcycling a lot. Thank goodness, restrictions have got relaxed a bit soon, so that for athletes outdoor training was possible again in Switzerland."

"But after that there was still waiting for the new race calendar to be published. When it was finally announced a few weeks ago, it was the most pleasant day so far this year. Since then I hope that nothing unforeseen will happen. So, I am incredibly happy that the time has come. We made a perfect start with yesterday's test. I had already built up a good feeling for this bike during the first three-day test last March and during the long break I was able to prepare myself perfectly. I really missed the track training, but physically I am in a much better shape."

"This is a great help in these conditions with air temperatures of almost 40 degrees and asphalt temperatures of up to 65 degrees. Nevertheless, it came as a bit of a surprise that I was fastest in all sessions as a rookie. From that point of view, it could not have gone better. We worked through our programme without any problems and can now look forward to the first race weekend with confidence. A few changes have had a positive effect. However, the lap times were a bit slower than in the first test. But that is due to the scorching heat. Nevertheless, it would be good if we could continue in this way during Friday’s practice sessions either. That would be half the battle for a great debut in the e-bike series for me."

"But for the time being I am happy to be together with the team again. But it is all very strange because of the still unresolved danger of infections. The safety of all is therefore the highest priority. I would like to praise the MotoGP organisers and all the medical professionals who have produced this catalogue, which will allow us to race again. I would also like to thank the sponsors, who continue to support me during this difficult time. I will give everything to justify this trust."
