2019/11/02 - Moto2™ World Championship 2019: Malaysia GP / QP Report

#MalaysianGP: Consistent pace increase hopes for the race

Although Dominique Aegerter has to start from the 24th spot on the starting grid on Sunday, he looks calmly towards the second last race of the season.

Daily thunderstorms are nothing unusual in Southeast Asia at the beginning of the rainy season. However, the 2019 edition of the Malaysia Grand Prix mostly has been accompanied by good and stable weather so far. Dominique Aegerter found more than half a second in FP3 at similar track conditions as on the previous day. In qualifying it was another tenth of a second faster.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (MV Agusta Temporary Forward, MV Agusta F2), Startplatz 24 - 2´06.510 (4/7):

"The differences between Australia and Malaysia are pretty blatant. The conditions in Sepang are hard to cope with because of the heat and the extremely high humidity. But it doesn't help, we still have to do our job. On Friday we started with two different settings. But the position at the end of the day didn't really show the result. It was a test for us, and we got a lot of information about the bike. I also noticed some significant differences in some areas. But mainly we worked on the corner speed."

"During this morning’s third practice session and in qualifying we were able to improve our lap times each time. We also managed to shorten the gap to the front runners a bit. So, Friday's work paid off obviously. But again, we didn't make it into Q2. So, we have to start from P24 on the starting grid. That's really not a good starting position to intervene ourselves in the fight for the points. But Sepang is always a long race and also a heat battle. Besides, our performance over the distance is stronger than just for one fast lap. That's why we’ve every right to hope. Hopefully it will stay dry tomorrow, so that we can use the basis we have worked out for race day. It would also be nice if it didn't get too hot."
