2019/06/29 - Moto2™ WM 2019: TT Assen / QP Report

#DutchGP: Good progress in qualifying mode

After strong improvements during Saturday’s qualifying, it was a big relief for Dominique Aegerter.

After disappointing qualifying performances in the last few races, Dominique Aegerter played an important role in the battle for the top four positions in Q1 that would have allowed him to make it through Q2. In the end, the 28-year-old Swiss Moto2™ star missed it by just 24 thousandths of a second to qualify for a grid position in one of the first six rows. Aegerter was also satisfied with the progress he had made, however, starting from P19 on the starting grid.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (MV Agusta Idealavoro Forward, MV Agusta F2), Grid position 19th - 1´37.529 (5/9):

"The weekend has not started very well. During free practice sessions, we struggled to get decent lap times. We simply weren't fast enough. But in Q1 we’ve made an important step. A big thank you to the whole team for their tireless work, that they found the right way ultimately. In addition, I have made great progress myself in terms of my riding. It always takes the interaction between the rider and the bike. In this respect, my crew chief has helped me enormously with how to ride our bike with this setting at this track. We did a great job in qualifying. In the end it was our best qualifying performance this year so far. We missed the jump into Q2 by a whisker. On the other hand, we still have to improve our race pace. In qualifying I managed to put in one fast lap, but there's still something missing for the distance. But so far, I'm happy about my grid position, even though tomorrow will be a busy day with a strenuous race waiting for us."
