2018/11/03 - Malaysia GP / QP Report

#MalaysianGP: SIXTH ROW IN TRICKY SEPANG

#DA77: SIXTH ROW IN TRICKY SEPANG

Dominique Aegerter closed Saturday’s qualifying for the second last race of the season behind their expectations.

Day two of practice in Malaysia went similar to Friday because as FP3 in the morning got underway, the track was still damp. It took then again, a felt eternity until the track conditions were clear and allowed a reasonable work in terms of preparation. At that time, however, it had been much too late for Dominique Aegerter and his crew to deal with the softer rear tyre. Therefore, the conditions for a successful repetition of last weekend’s qualifying performance was somehow diminished from the outset.

Due to the uncertain weather situation with scattered thunderstorms forecasted for Sunday afternoon, time schedule for race day changed short-term. Starting time for the Moto2™ race is now scheduled two hours earlier than initially for 04:20 am CET.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing), Grid position 17th - 2´07.243 (14/15):

"Honestly, we struggle a lot more at this track than last week in Australia. Of course, due to our strong qualifying performance last Saturday, we expected more than P17 on the starting grid for tomorrow’s race. At the hard-braking points, I don’t have the right feeling and therefore I can’t turn the bike properly. This resulted in late acceleration which is why we lose time in this point. We now have to see how we can fix this disadvantage until the race, or at least to reduce it. The difficult conditions also affected our tyre strategy today. Because of the damp track this morning we could use the better option of the two compounds for this weekend only one time. This, of course, was not enough to be perfect prepared for qualifying, even though the track meanwhile dried out completely. Therefore, it is difficult to say where we are because the whole package is not setup yet as far as it should be at the conclusion of qualifying."
