#ItalianGP: DOMINIQUE AEGERTER ROUNDED OFF A REMARKABLE RETURN TO ACTION WITH STRONG TWELFTH PLACE

#DA77 ROUNDED OFF A REMARKABLE RETURN TO ACTION WITH STRONG TWELFTH PLACE

In Sunday’s race at Mugello, the 27-year-old Swiss rider has honoured its nickname «Domi-Fighter» impressively.

Glorious summer weather and fully-crowded grandstands along the picturesque 5.2 kilometres long Mugello circuit within the hilly landscape of Italy’s Tuscany offered a magnificent scenery for the sixth race of the season. Dominique Aegerter, however, was plagued by other worries than to be able to enjoy the year by year fantastic atmosphere at Mugello. After two strenuous days of practice, the still injured Moto2™ rider went further weakened into his comeback race. But as soon as the lights went at lunch time, he literally rode across his handicap and displayed a determined performance. After 21 demanding laps at the ultra-fast and flowing circuit, Aegerter recovered more than a dozen positions to cross the line in twelfth position finally.

As every year, June is a busy month for the series with the upcoming Grand Prix in two weeks, Barcelona welcomes teams and riders with the next classic event of the calendar.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing), 12th, World Championship position 11th (20 points):

"In point of view to the long break due to my injury and my current condition, I’m pleased with today’s result of course. I’m really happy that I was able to make it into the points again in my first race after injury. The signs for a good race, however, were rather poor because I woke up again with severe pain. The situation was more worse than yesterday. Apart from these circumstances, there is obviously a lack of riding this bike at all. Five weeks without any practice with any kind of bikes, you don’t pick up on two days. Moreover, it was aggravated today that I lacked this kind of race feeling because to fight in midfield duels, or following other riders just ten centimetres behind them, or after getting passed by someone to ride in line of battle, all this kind of things didn't go as easy from the hands. Of course, I tried to enforce myself, but that didn’t work as automatically as I’m used to in normal circumstances."

"Therefore, it was difficult to stay concentrated just on riding. This will probably take one or two more race until I have this rhythm again. I think I was racing today on a similar level as in Qatar earlier this year. Luckily, until the next race there is a one and a half week break to strengthen my pelvic and leg further because I had to compensate a lot with my arms and the upper Body this weekend. This is why I’m completely exhausted now. But I have to be satisfied with my comeback in general. Again, a huge thanks to all who helped me, that I was able to return so quickly at all. Also, thanks to the Clinica Mobile staff for their great support as well as to my team for their job done and backing me at any time."
