#JapanGP: ANOTHER SOLID TOP TEN IN RAINY JAPAN

ANOTHER SOLID TOP TEN IN RAINY JAPAN

But Dominique Aegerter was not completely happy with ninth place after a tremendous difficult race.

After somehow more friendly weather on the previous day, the rain came back to Motegi for race day. Compared to Friday’s free practice sessions, the season’s 15th race took place under even more pouring rain. But before the time came, teams and riders of all three classes were put on a patience once again after a Moto3™ rider caused a massive oil spin around 4.8 kilometres long Twin Ring during the warm-up session. Therefore, starting time of the Moto2™ race was re-scheduled to 1:00 pm local time and the distance was shortened to 15 laps.

Dominique Aegerter, however, went into the race unimpressed from all these circumstances. The Swiss rider left the line well, coming from eleventh position on the starting grid and it looked like that he would reach his goal for this race easily. After his strong and positive start to the weekend during Friday’s wet sessions, the Suter rider secretly targets a top five. But perhaps the different conditions with more water on the track were decisive that the Suter rider did not feel so well during the race. After racing amongst the top riders during the opening stages, Aegerter had a fierce battle for eighth position with currently World Championship leader Franco Morbidelli.

After this great start to this year’s October flyaway race, the next Grand Prix at the picturesque Phillip Island circuit is on the agenda in just one week.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing, Suter MMX2), 9th (Championship position 8th, 99 points):

"I’m not quite satisfied because our goal was clearly the top five today. I lost just eleven seconds to the top but it took too long for me to get into a proper rhythm. I was not able to go the pace at the beginning. Towards the end, I had a hard fight with Morbidelli. It was for eighth position which would not have been that much better but I wanted to help Tom (Lüthi) a bit. Too bad I did not manage to pass Franco till the line."

"Two races ago I won in Misano in the rain. But every track is different and also not every day is the same. This also shows the fact that on Friday I had a better feeling than today and from point of view it annoys me a little that we ended up in ninth at the end of the weekend. There should have been more to come. On the other hand, to start the three oversea races with a top ten is also not the worst."
