2021/04/14 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup: zweiter Jerez-Test - third and last day

Second fastest after three intensive days of testing in Jerez

With consistent results in the top three during the second official test, Dominique Aegerter has pushed himself to a main contender for this year's MotoE™ World Cup.

The final preparations for the electric bike series were highly successful from the point of view of 30-year-old Dominique Aegerter. During a race simulation on the second day, the experienced rider from the canton of Bern wa already lapping under the current lap record. On the morning of the final day, Aegerter improved his lap time again by more than a tenth of a second. With a 1'47.106 he was the fastest rider out track at the Circuito de Jerez in Andalusia until shortly before the test’s conclusion.

The wind, which started to pick up at midday, was slightly an obstacle to overcome when Aegerter and his crew from the German Dynavolt Intact GP team worked mainly on fine-tuning to the Energica bike during the second session. The final time attack in the late afternoon was then also affected by changing wind conditions. Aegerter was unable to repeat his astonishing lap time from this morning and was pushed off the top spot on the timesheet at the very last moment by Brazilian Eric Granado.

The 2021 FIM MotoE™ World Cup begins in two weeks with the opening race at the Gran Premio de Espana in Jerez.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"Of course, I would have liked to finish the last test before the first race as the fastest. Nevertheless, the positives outweigh the negatives after these three days. We finished every session in the top three. That is particularly important for our self-confidence. Most of the time our pace was really strong and sometimes I was able to put in a super-fast lap time either. On the other hand, we were sometimes a little behind our main contender. Especially I am speaking about Eric Granado. But I also have to mention that the conditions took a lot of getting used to. The conditions always changed a lot from the first session in the early morning to the last session of a day in the late afternoon. On the last day, there was also ever-changing strong winds."

"In the end, the tyre allocation also played a role, as I did not have a new front tyre for the last session. Nevertheless, we did a super job at every time. My team works very precisely in every respect and comes up with a lot of ideas. That was why we were able to improve step by step right from the start. Ultimately, though, it is up to me to be at the front in every session, or at least as close as possible to the top guys. But I think the situation will change at the race weekends, because then there comes added pressure. Nevertheless, the race itself is my absolute strength. I am looking forward to that when things finally get serious again. After these two tests, it looks like Granado and I will be the pacemakers. At least that is what you can expect at the season opener in Jerez. After that, however, there will be some new circuits such as Barcelona and Assen. I know these tracks very well from my Moto2 days, but with the MotoE bike it will be a little different there during the first few laps."

"After a long and intensive preparation period, I am now looking forward to the next two weeks. I have spent the last three and a half months in Spain. So, I am happy to spend the break until the first race in two weeks at home in Switzerland. Before that, though, I am off to Assen, where there is an event with the Ten Kate team on Monday. After that I will relax a bit and at the same time continuing my physical training to come back to Jerez at the end of this month in the best shape."
