2024/04/18 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2024: Dutch Round - Preview

Assen ends wait again

With round three of this year’s FIM Superbike World Championship this weekend at Assen in the Netherlands, Dominique Aegerter returns to a race track where he feels at home for several reasons.

After bringing forward the date for the race weekend in Barcelona, Superbike World Championship heads to the historic TT Circuit in Assen this week. The third weekend in April has been a fixed date for the series' visit to the north of the Netherlands for a number of years. Unfortunately, changeable weather at this time of year is also a tradition there.

Dominique Aegerter will have to be patient for almost four weeks before he can get back on his Yamaha Superbike on Friday. Expectations are high, as the 33-year-old Swiss rider has a special relationship with the TT Circuit. And not just since his successes in Supersport World Championship with his team then just around the corner from the circuit based.

ServusTV will report live from the main races in Assen. The broadcast will start on Saturday and Sunday (with recording of the Superpole race) at 13:10 CEST. Eurosport, on the other hand, only has recordings in its program this weekend: Race 1 on Sunday at 08:30 on Eurosport 1 and Race 2 on Monday shortly after midnight at 00:45 on Eurosport 2. All sessions can be followed via the "ServusTV On" app or online via the website www.servustv.com as well as via the paid live stream on the official WorldSBK website.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)

"I am looking forward to Assen because I really like the track. I have ridden many different racing bikes there. I have very good memories of my time in the Supersport World Championship, but I have also had good races in Assen on a Superbike. I think the data from last year will help to get the weekend off to a good start. I have not found out about the weather yet. But it can be very changeable in April. Nevertheless, I hope for stable conditions with mostly sunshine, not only for us riders, but also for the spectators at the track."

"The character of the track is somehow unique, mostly fast and flowing. There are very few hard braking points. In addition, tyre management is less critical than in the first races and there are no super-long straights. We will try to keep working as we have done so far, have good practice sessions and do well again in qualifying. I have already started from the front row twice this season and that is certainly one of our goals, to repeat. I also want to get closer to the top five this weekend. After another long break of a month in which I did not ride a Superbike race bike, I am glad that things are now moving on. We will also do our best in Assen."
